Location
:
Located
in Mount Artxanda, one of the most traditional and beautiful
areas of Bilbao, our restaurant enjoys a privileged
location and excellent views of the city. This, together
with its solid construction in the taste of our traditional
country houses, makes it a relaxing, pleasant environment
for after-dinner conversation, for both business events
as well as family celebrations.
History :
Although
its opening date as a restaurant is not accurately known,
it was in 1897 that a small refuge for shepherds and
mountaineers was built in Mount Artxanda. Over time,
this refuge was transformed into one of the most renowned
and prestigious restaurants in Bilbao.
The
definite moment for its consolidation as a restaurant
was brought about by the construction of the former
Bilbao Casino, in the 20's, when it became the meeting
place for the society of Bilbao, which considered El
Txakolí the privileged place to meet.
Towards
the end of the Civil War, a bombing destroyed part of
the structure and the former Casino. The subsequent
reconstruction and extension work gave rise to the present-day
structure. El Txakolí has managed to overcome adverse
circumstances and to improve through the days, by keeping
up with the times.

Our Philosophy :
In
our view, quality comes first. For that reason, El Txakolí
is a must for the most demanding palates, as it selects
the freshest fish and the juiciest meats of the region.
Today more than ever, concern about the quality of the
products we enjoy is obvious in the level of knowledge
and request from our clients. For this reason, our obsession
is to find the finest products in the market, so they
can be brought to your table in just the way you deserve.

Our Premises :
We
have three rooms varying in seating capacity which allows
us to adjust to your needs. Thus, we can hold from the
best-attended banquet to the most intimate dinner, from
the celebration of weddings, christenings and communions,
to conventions, congresses, and business luncheons.
